The Ballarat Magistrates Court heard on Monday that Benjamin Gornalle was only driving 61km/h in a 100km/h zone along Powells Road on April 12 this year when he lost control of his car.
The car rotated on its vertical axis, anti-clockwise, for 71 metres before hitting a small drain, causing it to become airborne for 12.5 metres before rolling and coming to rest on the drivers’ side.
Both rear tyres were worn.
The court also heard that when police questioned Mr Gornalle at his home, he and his father became agitated and asked officers to leave the premises.
Magistrate Gregory Robinson said the collision report didn’t show any evidence of “hoon driving” and there wasn’t enough information to explain exactly how the accident happened.
Mr Gornalle was fined $500 plus $150 in costs.
