Cycling: Liam White takes Ballarat Sebastopol road title

Liam White is the Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club’s new open road champion.

He survived windy conditions and a series of late attacks to out-sprint Jez McInnes in 99km event at Blampied on Saturday.

Pat Shaw was a fast-finishing third in a 33-strong field contested across four divisions.

The first serious attack came late in the second of seven laps, but it was not until the last that heat was applied more regularly.

Jay Bourke took the initiative to be the first to jump away for the final sprint, prompting White and McInnes to take up the challenge and ultimately fight out the event.
