Police were patrolling on the Monash Freeway near Yarra Boulevard about 8.40am when they detected an Audi Q7 travelling at 138km/h in an 80km/h zone.

Officers from Prahran Highway Patrol pulled the driver over and found he had two passengers, a woman in her late 20s and a one-year-old girl.

The man's car was impounded for 30 days and the driver will receive a summons for excessive speed and driving at a dangerous speed.

Victoria Police Sergeant John Borg said he was extremely disappointed with the man's behaviour.

"Going almost 60km/h over the limit in an 80 zone is senseless, but to be driving that fast with a baby in the back seat is absolutely disgraceful," Sergeant Borg said.

"He's lucky no one was killed."

Nunawading Highway Patrol officers also detected two speedsters on the same road earlier on Saturday morning.

A 30-year-old man travelling on the Monash Freeway was caught doing an alleged 131km/h in a 100km/h zone. His licence was suspended for one month.

Police say another man, a 23-year-old on an international licence, was clocked going allegedly 136km/h on the same stretch of road, before continuing onto Wellington Road in Mulgrave and doing 40km/h over the 80km/h speed limit.

The unlicensed man, who received two speed-related penalty notices, said he was late for work and needed to go to the toilet.

An 18-year-old man pulled over on Wellington Road also said he was running late for work when he was detected doing an alleged 136km/h in the 80km/h zone.

He was summoned for speed offences and had his vehicle impounded for 30 days.

Police say the incidents were a timely reminder to plan journeys and allow enough time in the mornings and to stay safe heading into Christmas.
