Barry Whelan, Jim Jones, Rod Stapleton, David Martin, Roger McNeight, Bill Allen and Kevin Arnold all celebrated 50 years with the club in December.
The Ballarat Fly Fishers Club, made up of over 160 members, meets on a monthly basis at Lake Wendouree. Established in 1919, the club has hosted various fly fishing competitions including the 1995 Victorian Fly Fishing Championships and the Commonwealth 1999 Fly Fishing Championships.
Greg Armstrong, current president of the club and member for 21 years, said that the club is very active in the Australian and international scene for fly fishing.
“There is a very active championship side of the club. Maybe a dozen have represented Victoria or Australia internationally.” Mr Armstrong said.
“Our club is the envy of the other clubs around Australia because we have the club rooms on the lake.”
Mr Armstrong said most participants were from Ballarat but they do have an active core of members from Bacchus Marsh and Melbourne.
The club also hosts a range of social activities at monthly meetings, such as casserole nights and a ferry ride organised for February.
