Thousands of homes were without power and tens of trees went down as gusts of almost 90km/h lashed Ballarat on Wednesday.

SES attended 47 incidents in the region from midday on Wednesday, 34 of them in Ballarat.
Buninyong resident Glen Davis found his car crushed under a large large branch on Ascot Street South at 2pm.
Mr Davis had been visiting his wife at an aged care home across the street.
High winds also damaged a number of homes in the Ballarat area.
Fallen trees caused power outages in the Newington, Soldiers Hill, Lake Wendouree, Redan, Black Hill, Ballarat Central and Ballarat East areas.
Almost 1500 homes in central Ballarat were without power temporarily, as well as 1501 at Soldiers Hill.
Power was restored to all properties by Wednesday evening.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for thunderstorms, heavy rains and localised flash flooding for the Ballarat area on Thursday.
