Police also say Bassim​ Al Hamzah, 24, three times evaded officers by speeding one of the cars over the West Gate Bridge, in Sydney Road and in a residential area on Monday, before he was found, passed out, behind the driving wheel early Tuesday morning.

Melbourne Magistrates Court heard Mr Al Hamzah stole a $40,000 black Mercedes-Benz from a Roxburgh Park car wash on December 17 last year despite the attempts of an attendant to stop him getting in the car.

Detective Senior Constable Daniel Bonnici​ told the court on Wednesday that Mr Al Hamzah kept the car at a friend's home in Reservoir, but on Sunday night an argument started when the friend told him to remove it.

Mr Al Hamzah is accused of shooting his friend twice in the right leg - once in the upper thigh and then in the calf - and then firing four more shots into the man's home, before leaving in a white Land Rover with three other people. The man required surgery.

Mr Al Hamzah is also alleged to have stolen a silver Mercedes-Benz from outside a Bundoora home last Thursday when the car's owner went inside to change his shoes and left the car key in the glovebox.

That car was later fitted with number plates stolen from another Mercedes-Benz in East Melbourne.

Senior Detective Bonnici said police saw the silver coupe speeding along the West Gate Freeway about 11am on Monday and recorded it hitting 147 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

That night, the court heard, other police clocked the car driving at 137 km/h in a 70 km/h zone in Sydney Road, Fawkner, before it was later seen driving at 107 km/h in a 50 km/h zone in Altona Meadows.

Mr Al Hamzah was found passed out behind the wheel, with the car engine still running, about 3am on Tuesday in a Reservoir driveway, Detective Senior Constable Bonnici said.

He said police attended but Mr Al Hamzah fought with the officers.

He was arrested and charged with 22 offences including intentionally causing serious injury, reckless conduct endangering death, theft, speeding and assaulting police.

He represented himself in applying for bail and told the court he was not driving the car. He said he should be released from custody so he could undergo facial surgery to have a plate removed.

Police opposed bail over concerns Mr Al Hamzah is a danger to the public and has a drug problem.

Magistrate Paul Smith found the accused man failed to show cause for his release, and remanded him in custody to return to court on a later date.
