The Queenslander goes into the Victorian AMCA Championship at the Buninyong circuit as the reigning champion.
His defence could hardly be tougher.
National titleholder Matt Hardy heads a impressive line-up of challengers from across Australia, including last-start Redline winner Tim Reidy and Dean Heseltine.
Reidy was runner-up to Potts in the championship last year, while Heseltine strung together three wins in a row earlier this season.
Jamie Collins, the Mills Boys, Darren McCarthy, Paul Sullivan and Shane Cartwright are other big dangers.
Collins and Jamie Mills will be determined to make up for the misfortune in this event a year ago when their chances ended with flat tyres.
Originally from Castlemaine, Potts will not give up his title easily.
He ended a decade of trying to secure a major championship at Mildura a year ago.
Up to the breakthrough Potts had had to be satisfied with minor podium finishes in the national, Queensland and New South Wales championships.
Street Stocks will provide the main support event with the Eliminator Cup.
Newly crowned Queensland champion Darren Giacometti from Glenlyon heads the 40-strong line-up.
He took the title from Anthony Beare and Brad McClure at Gympie at the weekend. Just 0.895 seconds separated the first four cars across the line.
Mick Dann, Brooke Ferguson, Jason Degoldi, Shaun Henry, Darryl Atkinson, Darren Forrest, Michael Clark, Stuey Robinson and David Barrie will be doing their best to run down Giacometti.
Drivers who qualify for the Eliminator Cup compete in one direction with only a pre-determined amount of drivers remaining in the race when it turns to run the other way.
There is then a second elimination before the final line-up decides the outright winner.
The program will also feature open sedan, with Sean Lister, Lucas Conder, Leigh Bourke, Garry Monti and Mick Hillman leading drivers.
Gates open at 2pm with racing from 4.30pm.
