The 200cm powerhouse is returning after an absence of four years.
He spent two seasons under the guidance head coach Guy Molloy with the Miners in the SEABL after moving up from Ballarat’s D-league program.
Originally from Melton, McCallum averaged 5.3 points game and 4.5 rebounds a game.
However, just as he appeared poised to make an even more significant impact he was lost to football in 2013.
McCallum and Miners teammate Ryan Barnes were lured to Learmonth in the Central Highlands league to play under legendary coach John Northey.
McCallum said at the time: “I’ve played basketball pretty much my whole life. I thought I had had enough for the time being and wanted to play football. I’ve always had an interest in footy, but I’ve never had the time to have a crack at it.”
He spent two seasons with the Lakies.
McCallum said he was looking forward to representing Ballarat in basketball once more.
He is returning to the Miners program after playing basketball in the United Kingdom and back with his hometown Melton in the Big V.
Miners head coach Eric Hayes said McCallum would provide additional support and height.
“His ability to read the game well really supports his agility on the court.”
Hayes paid testament to McCallum’s hard-working attitude, noting he has been a regular at pre-season training with a focus on strength and conditioning.
Securing McCallum adds further to an already bolstered rooster.
The Miners also go into the second phase their pre-season with two new imports locked in, having recruited Davon Usher and Marvin King-Davis via the University of Delaware.
They will join another newcomer in Craig Moller from Sydney Kings in the National Basketball League.
While this will be Moller’s first full season in Ballarat, is well known to the Miners
Moller spent two stints with the team last season as a cover for injuries.
He impressed so much in his initial stay while covering for an injured Chris Smith and absent James Hunter that he was invited back when Dyson King-Hawea injured ankle for the last phase of the season.
Smith has also re-signed for a fifth year in Ballarat.
