Midlands Golf skipper Peter Considine has credited a concerted effort to have faster home greens for helping secure an upset success against weekend pennant division one pacesetters Ballarat Memorial Sports.

Considine and his side, which sits at the foot of the Ballarat District Bowls Division ladder, produced a brilliant four-shot win on the Alfredton carpet on Saturday.
Leading by more than 20 shots at afternoon tea, the visitors held strong to clinch the morale-boosting 107-103 success.
The result was just Midlands Golf’s second triumph of the campaign.
BMS won three of the four rinks on the day, but Midlands Golf was able to claim the overall result.
That defeat was BMS’s fourth of 2016-17.
Considine said the club has been known for producing slow greens at Midlands in recent years, but that had changed this season.
“It’s a slightly different game (playing on faster greens) so I just think the fact we’ve had quicker greens this year where possible has really helped us bowl on that (carpet) surface,” Considine, who lost his rink by four shots, said.

Considine admitted avoiding the drop in 2016-17 will be tough given second-bottom side Avenue has a division two team and can’t be relegated. This means Midlands Golf must finish eighth to avoid slipping back a division next season.
Despite the win on the weekend, the team is still on the bottom of the table, but is now only two points behind Avenue. Creswick sits eighth, 32 points ahead of Midlands Golf.
“We haven’t had a lot of luck, but you make your own luck as they say,” Considine said.
“We are a much better side than where we are sitting on the ladder we think.”
Meanwhile, Mt Xavier produced some heroics in the final end of the day to snatch a draw in the clash with Ballarat East.
The rink led by skipper Chris McDonald secured a five-shot end to tie the scores at 92 apiece.
After claiming three rink successes, the Two Blues took 11 points from the match, with the X-men scoring seven.
Elsewhere, Sebastopol suffered a huge drop on the ladder after its loss to Learmonth.
The Kookaburras had been inside the top four heading into the round 12 match, but slipped to seventh as a result of the defeat.
Ballarat collected all 18 points from the battle with Creswick after prevailing by 25 shots and Central Wendouree proved far too good for Avenue, winning 101-74.
