Moorabool Shire Councillor Paul Tatchell said the “idiotic act” occurred when Victoria was struggling to drive down its shocking road toll. 

“We are at the time of year when we are trying to get across that road safety message,” Cr Tatchell said.

“We have had a lot of tragedy over the holidays and then a person who is not smart enough to be an idiot does this,” Cr Tatchell said.

Bacchus Marsh police were investigating the incident on Wednesday after seeing the film on social media. Shockingly, no one had reported the Main Street hooning, that left the a shorts clad motorcyclist with grazes, to police. 

Acting Sergeant Janine Watson urged anyone who filmed the incident or witnessed it to come forward. The incident happened at around 8.30pm on Tuesday near Flanagan's Border Inn in Main Street.

She said police were only made aware of the dangerous behaviour after it was posted on social media.

She police believe the rider had grazed his leg before taking off. 

“This is dangerous behaviour in an area where there are pedestrians,” Acting Sergeant Watson said.

Cr Tatchell said the behaviour could have resulted in tragedy and should be condemned – not celebrated on social media.

“I think we need to take them (hoons) through the spinal ward and show them what the rest of their life could be like if things don’t go to plan.

“Driving is a privilege – not a right.” 

He said community members needed to report irresponsible behavior. 

“The standard you walk past is the standard you live by,” Cr Tatchell said. 

Police responded to a two car collision on the Midland Highway near Meredith that left two people in hospital.

Shocked diners watched on as a motorcyclist hooned down the middle of a main street in Bacchus Marsh doing burnouts before falling off and fleeing the scene. 

Amazingly none of the shocked onlookers contacted local police who are beginning their investigations into the concerning incident.
