Jamie Brincat, who was charged with attempted murder over the October 9 incident, appeared briefly via videolink from the Melbourne Metropolitan Remand Centre before the Ballarat Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
Police allege Brincat shot a 24-year-old man in the stomach at Wendouree, with an investigation commencing after the victim took himself to the Ballarat Base Hospital.
During the brief committal mention on Thursday the court heard Brincat was due to have new legal representation for the matter.
It is expected Brincat, who also faces a number of firearm offences, will now have discussions with his new representation over whether he plans to plead guilty or not guilty. The matter will return to court for further committal mention on March 16.
