With the Blue Diamond having a capacity of 16 runners, Hayes' Euroa operation will have six competitors: Catchy, Formality, Tulip, Wait For No One, Muraahib and Will's Bid in the field.

But Hayes, who has the favourite, Catchy, admitted that he has 11 fully qualified juveniles that could well have taken their place in Victoria's most important two-year-old event.

Hayes said that his five other two-year-olds would go in different directions but admitted that it was a reflection of the health of his Euroa training operation.

"We'll have five definite starters but in the case of Will's Bid we'll just have a talk with the owners. He could go to Sydney for the Skyline Stakes as if he wins there he goes straight into the Golden Slipper, so we'll just wait on him," he said.

Track gallops early on Monday morning will give Hayes a better insight into how his team is tracking heading into Saturday's race.

"Catchy is at our Flemington stable and she'll gallop about 4.30 in the morning and we'll drive back to Euroa and watch Tulip and Formality have their last hitouts," he said.

Hayes said he wouldn't have a pecking order until the three fillies have galloped on Monday and barrier stalls are drawn on Tuesday morning.

"I know Tuesday is the traditional galloping day but I prefer Mondays as if something goes wrong in their work you've got a extra day to try and get things right again," he said.

"But I have a very powerful team, a team very fit and very well and that's a great position to be in come Diamond day."

Hayes has won six Blue Diamonds and believes that the patterns of racing by the majority of his entrants in the Blue Diamond are very important.

"Eighty per cent of the last 10 Diamonds have been won by fillies and colts coming from back in the field, while only two of them have been successful on pace.

"So that's why it's an important dimension to have with two-year-olds coming into important races that they don't enter into a speed battle.

"But I think after the barriers we'll probably have a clearer picture on what's happening," he said.

Hayes said that all of his two-year-olds that were being aimed at the Blue Diamond were starting to do their work in the opposite direction in a bid to help them cope when they go to Sydney to take on the Golden Slipper.

Meanwhile, high-class youngster Limestone is still not a certain to run in the Diamond with trainer Darren Weir saying on Saturday that he was still unsure.

He will have discussions with Limestone's owner and breeder David Moodie to come to a decision, with Moodie having to pay a late entry fee of $55,000 on Monday if the filly is to start.

Weir said the decision on whether the Blue Diamond Preview winner runs in the feature is down to Moodie, but he said that if he was asked for his opinion, he would not necessarily opt to run.
