Ballarat has hosted the Cycling Australia Road Nationals since 2002, apart from a 2005-06 stint in Adelaide, but the future of the event in Buninyong has come under consideration since January’s event.
2017 was the final year of the contract with Cycling Australia and with plenty of candidates putting their hand up to replace Ballarat as the host, the national body is currently finalising a decision of the location.
However, Bracks, a Ballarat boy, was coy on what the final decision would be, but gave a glowing appraisal of the event and said a decision would be announced shortly.
“They were very successful, it’s a great event for Ballarat,” the former Victorian premier told The Courier.
“There will be an announcement made on that fairly soon.
“I believe it’s a very successful, well-run and conducted event and it’s one that works for cyclists and Ballarat.”
Bracks said one of his main visions for the role was to continue the rapid growth of cycling and attract more big-ticket events to Australia.
“The board approached me to take on the role as chair and I was very pleased to do it.
“We’re performing very well on the national stage and I want to make sure we can do better and that’s one of the reasons I’ve taken up the role.
“More events across Australia...there’s a lot happening, but even more can happen in the future.”
I believe it’s a very successful, well-run and conducted event.
