Seraphim’s concerts this year take their audience on a journey through time. The piano trio are exploring works from different eras and different styles. This journey, presented over their recitals at the Gallery in February and July, promises to be a fabulous adventure of sound and emotion.
The February concert begins with Haydn’s thrilling ‘Gypsy Rondo’ Trio in G, which reveals the piano trio genre as much more than just an accompanied sonata.
Elements of dance are also found in the music of Johannes Brahms, whose great Piano Trio in B major is perhaps the most beloved work of this golden age of the trio. Shostakovich’s Trio No 2, whether heard as an elegy at the loss of a friend or a whole nation in the midst of war, remains painfully relevant in our century.
