Inspector Bruce Thomas said on-the-ground members monitoring behaviour would be backed up by members monitoring the event in real time from the Melbourne-based Victoria Police Monitoring and Assessment set up.
"(The centre) has been set up to allow staff to combine the masses of real-time information we receive every day from Triple-0, CCTV and social media," Inspector Thomas said.
"The MAC, along with a number of other proactive intelligence and engagement measures, were deployed to great success at the recent Melbourne White Night, allowing police to detect and disrupt unrest before it occurred."
White Night artistic director and executive producer David Atkins said Ballarat could expect to see the same security measures as what were applied to Melbourne.
“The security in Ballarat is going to be extensive and we’re taking it quite seriously,” he said. “Melbourne was a really successful event – it was very, very safe, operationally it was great, crowd control was excellent and security was great so I’m expecting exactly the same result in Ballarat.”
While Mr Atkins said it was difficult to estimate crowd numbers without a precedent, he expected people to come from regional towns as well as those from Melbourne who preferred a smaller crowd.
“One of the advantages of Ballarat is the streets are so wide, so that will make it a much easier experience,” he said.
White Night Ballarat is an alcohol-free event.
