It turns out the supposedly-unknown TattsLotto winner was fully aware he had won more than $500,000 the whole time - he just took his time to claim the enormous prize.
TattsLotto put out a call on Monday to try and find the lucky winner, thinking it was somebody who hadn’t checked their ticket.
However, the Invermay Park man says he knew the whole time – he was just struggling to digest the news before claiming his ticket.
The man, who is aged in his 30’s and works as a driver, admitted he actually checked the results online after coming home late on Saturday night and was shocked when he circled all six winning numbers in a row on his ticket.
“I was quite in shock, I’m still pinching myself,” he said.
“I started with the first three numbers and realised that one line on my ticket looked pretty good, then the rest of them popped up too.
“Everyone’s been talking about a winning ticket from Wendouree – well it’s me!”
The man who wished to remain anonymous said he had been playing the lottery for 12 years, picking up some small prizes along the way.
However, this was his first major windfall.
So, what to do with the $524,362.67?
“I’ve had a couple of days to start thinking about what I want to do with it – pay off my mortgage, upgrade my car, and invest some money. A holiday is definitely on the cards as well.”
