V/Line has released the following statement:
“V/Line services on the Ballarat line are suspended in both directions this morning, following an incident at Melton.
A car hit a boom gate at Coburns Road crossing at around 7.50am, pushing the gate into the path of an oncoming train.
Maintenance crews are on the way to the scene.
V/Line is working to provide replacement coach services.
The disruption could last up to two hours, and customers are advised to seek alternative transport where possible.
Customers can find the latest information on the V/Line website, Twitter feed, app and SMS for customers signed up to the Inform data base.”
UPDATE, 8.30AM: The delay due to the damaged level crossing at Ballarat is ongoing.
Maintenance crews have been directed to the site, but the disruption is expected to continue through the morning peak.
Coaches are being sourced where possible to assist with completing customer journeys.
EARLIER: Trains on the Ballarat train line have been suspended this morning, throwing early morning commuters into chaos.
A damaged level crossing at Melton is behind the train cancellations, with all services suspended.
V/Line is sourcing coaches to take passengers and maintenance crews are heading to the location of the fault.
