Jamie Brincat, who was charged with attempted murder over the October 9 incident, appeared via videolink before the Ballarat Magistrates' Court on Thursday for committal mention.
During the brief hearing the court heard from Brincat's new legal representation who said the matter was yet to be resolved.
An application for further adjournment was granted to allow discussions between defence counsel and prosecution to be had about appropriate witnesses if the matter was to proceed to a committal hearing.
Police allege Brincat shot a 24-year-old man in the stomach at Wendouree, with an investigation commencing after the victim took himself to the Ballarat Base Hospital.
Brincat, who also faces a number of firearm offences and a breach of community corrections order, is yet to indicate whether he will plead guilty or not guilty.
The matter will return to court for further committal mention on April 13.
