The Ballarat Miners attended the GMHBA Eye Care clinic on Tuesday ahead of the team’s season opener on Friday.
“Our sponsor is looking after us and giving us an eye test just to make sure there aren’t any problems leading into the season,” Hooley said.
“For guys who have perhaps not done this before, like me, you want to make sure it is perfect.”
Optometrist Adam Olechnowicz said the eye test was “extremely important” for athletes.
“Not only do you have to have excellent vision to see what you are doing (on court) and judge distances, we also check the health of the eyes as a lot of eye diseases can go undetected,” he said.
In fact it was only last week Hooley was poked in the eye “pretty badly” during a training game.
His thoughts went straight to NBL player Akil Mitchell’s horrific injury, where the eye popped out of its socket.
Fortunately that wasn’t the case for Hooley, whose eye health is being well looked after.
