The Prodigal Son and More will run until May 15 and is an opportunity to learn more about these two influential artists as well as the work of Arthur Boyd’s son Jamie, which also features.
The Boyds are one of the most recognisable dynasties in Australian art, and the title of the exhibition refers to Arthur’s series of the same name, which he created in 1946-47 and later revisited. Some of his etchings from the 1990s on this topic are on show here.
Sidney Nolan, creator of the renowned Ned Kelly series, would have been 100 years old this year. His Gallipoli series, also famous, was created in memory of his brother Raymond who was killed in an accident during WWII. These works are also in the exhibition.
Gallery on Sturt curator Leigh Tweedie says all the works on display are available for purchase.
