With many dressing to the floral theme of the occasion, more than 100 women were pampered with a two course lunch, auctions, raffles, stalls and spinning wheel action at Bungaree Community Centre.
It was a day for the mums to relax, with free childcare provided at the kinder for children aged over one to four.
Kindergarten staff had 25 tots in their care while their mothers and grandmothers had a rare few hours off to enjoy lunch.
Kate Sprague attended the lunch for the first time last year.
“Last year I had so much fun that this year I was searching for details even before they were released,” Ms Sprague said.
One of the youngest ladies to attend was Ms Sprague’s daughter Jenna, 3½ months, who dressed to the theme in a floral onesie.
At the other end of the spectrum, Patricia Ronan was at her 24th Wallace and District Kindergarten Mother’s Day Luncheon. She has attended every year since her now 28-year-old grandaughter attended the kinder.
“I look forward to it. It’s such a wonderful day to celebrate motherhood,” she said.
The event is the kindergarten’s major fundraiser, with this year’s profits going toward building a dry creek bed and water pump in the kinder yard, installing picnic tables and new bench seats, and buying educational resources.
”It’s a go-to event for the district,” said organiser Leah Hanrahan.
“It’s the 34th consecutive year that the Parents and Friends group have run this amazing Mother’s Day Lunch.”
A highlight of the day was the announcement of a $2000 donation from the Bendigo Bank at Ballan, taking the money raised from the event to more than $6000.
