The Vikings trailed 1-0 at half-time despite having control of possession. Coach Corey Smith said the half-time discussion revolved around raising their intensity and some key positional moves.
Star recruit Daniel Firth came on at the start of the second half and had immediate impact setting up the first two goals as the Vikings goal-scoring machine clicked through the gears at a rapid rate to put six goals past the keeper in half an hour.
“We just switched on,” Smith said.
“I’ve said all along, I believe we can score at anytime, we’ve got the best scoring threats in the league – no team will keep us scoreless if we play anywhere near our best.
“The main talk at half-time was to just settle into the game, a little bit more work ethic and a couple of changes positionally.
“The momentum changed when we got the first goal, then after that we were all over them.
“A good result overall. We keep up with the other top sides – job done, three points on the road is always positive.”
Sebastopol Vikings have trailed at half-time in its last four matches, something Smith said must improve if it is to continue its strong form.
It has produced some brilliant second halves, but is leaving a lot of work to be done in the final period.
Smith said while the slow starts were frustrating, it was something that can be easily fixed. And also felt the strong second halves were no coincidence, rather a reflection of its squad depth – highlighted by stars Daniel Firth and Kuanyjal Tuany starting as substitutes.
“I’m a little bit frustrated that we’ve conceded early in games, so that’s something we need to work on.
“We need to improve our starts to the game. But it also talks about our strength of depth. Our substitutes tend to come on and change the game, where as the substitutes of opposition teams, they fall away a little bit in quality.”
