Robin Hood and the six Warriors of Legend will fight the good fight with their superhero-style battle skills in The Siege, a high-action version of the familiar Robin Hood tale.
And in the epic final battle scene, more than 1000 costumed medieval warriors will storm the castle to flush out the evil Sheriff of Nottingham.
The 20-day shoot for the movie will take place entirely in the castle and the bushland of Mt Warrenheip behind the fortress.
Actors and directors Paul Allica and Shaun McFadyen have booked the ambitious shoot at the castle for 20 days in October.
The pair have invested their life savings in to the project to cover the basic costs but are now crowd-funding to raise the shortfall and a recent $25,000 insurance quote.
Mr Allica hit on the idea to film an Aussie medieval action movie while working in China over the past year.
“I’ve just got back from China where I’ve been acting and producing mainly action movies and working with Jackie Chan, Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Marvel action team,” he said.
“I thought it would be cool to shoot something back home in Australia to support the local industry rather than keep working in Asia.”
During a 25-day break in filming a movie with Chan and Schwarzenegger, Mr Allica wrote his own action movie.
“I remember going to Kryal Castle as a kid, so I wrote a script specific for the castle with scenes set in the rooms and buildings there.”
“It’s a bit like a medieval The Expandables. They all come together to siege the castle.”
Medieval action, swords, jousting, and superhero fighting styles all feature in the flick with each character hailing from a different country, speaking with a different accent and boasting a unique fighting style and weapon.
Since writing the script, the film-makers have spent $10,000 of their $150,000 to $200,000 budget having it professionally rewritten.
The film-makers have raised $50,000, are seeking funding from film investors, and hope to crowd fund another $50,000 through an indiegogo.com campaign which can be found searching “the siege epic robin hood action film”.
