An elderly pedestrian has been hospitalised after he was struck by a car in Melbourne's north.

Emergency services were called to High Street in Preston about 9.45pm on Saturday.
The man, aged in his 70s, suffered cuts and abrasions, an Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said.
He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.
The driver of the car, a man in his 40s, stopped at the scene and spoke with authorities.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
