The So Beautiful singer worked with hip hop producer Trials (AB Original) on the record, which comes out this Friday.
Camacho comes years 14 years after Murray released his second album and chart topper Feeler.
Murray will perform at the Regent Multiplex Theatre in August.
“What I didn’t want to do was be in a studio with a whole band, for me that’s kind of old school now and listening to records that have that on there it sounds older,” Murray says.
“Working on my own was great because I could just write all the songs acoustic but added these loops from Garageband into them.
I’ve broken away with the acoustic vibe - just experimenting getting away from the old original sounds that I’ve used before and sounds that are a bit fresher.

“Early demos were like folk music mixed with hip hop beats and grooves and that changed a bit further when I started using some synths and bass.”
Murray says the new album is “punchier” than Feeler.
“I definitely wanted to make a change up and I’m definitely known for that kind of music - the stripped back acoustic. I’ve broken away with the acoustic vibe. Just experimenting getting away from the old original sounds that I’ve used before and sounds that are a bit fresher.”
But there is still a through point between the two, he says.
“This album reminds me a lot of Feeler - in the way I have a bit of anxiety about it, it’s a really solid album from start to finish I don’t think there are any weak moments. It’s all these things that are a lot of similarities that have happened through the whole album.”
Murray says he let the new release – his sixth studio album – percolate.
“The thing I wanted to do different with this album was to take my time and get it right.
“So many times in the past I have jumped into a studio for four to six weeks and recorded an album. With Camacho there was no rush, it was going to be finished when it was finished.”
Pete Murray will play at The Regent Multiplex Theatre on Thursday, August 24 at 8pm. Doors open at 7.30pm.
