After a good start from the Sovereigns, Melbourne University Lightning led at the first and second breaks.
But it was a strong second half that set the Sovereigns up for the win.
Sovereigns division one coach Kim Bailey said she was “really happy” with the way the team had fought back to produce the victory.
“We put the foot down and didn’t look like losing in that last quarter,” she said.
“Something we have been really concentrating on is if we do get the lead back, that we have to maintain it and put teams away, keep the scoring pressure on the board and defensive pressure down the court.”
Bailey said if the Sovereigns defeat second-placed North East Blaze next week, the team would be in for a “real shot” at making finals.
Meanwhile, the championship side suffered a 46 point defeat at the hands of Melbourne University Lightning.
Sovereigns’ Andrea Tai again stood out shooting with 91 per cent efficiency.
