Ballarat City Fire Brigade station officer Adam Baker said firefighters arrived to find the side of the home engulfed in flames along suburban Birdwood Avenue about 9.30pm.
It took five fire trucks and 15 firefighters about 10 minutes to help bring the blaze under control.
Mr Baker called on homeowners to ensure lint filters were clean when drying clothes.
The incident prompted Mount Clear mother Martina Albin to warn residents her tumble dryer also caught alight on May 25.
She was folding laundry in her lounge room before she suddenly noticed her house was full of smoke.
“I ran into the laundry and saw the dryer had gone up in flames with all my clothes,” she said.
“The drum was still going when smoke was billowing out of it, it didn’t turn off even though it was on fire.”
