From its earliest days as a four-page broadsheet to the latest digital versions available today, the paper has mapped the growth of the city.

Founded in the first days of Ballarat’s transformation from muddy, dusty mining camp to a town of Victorian splendour, The Courier has kept its citizens informed, engaged, enraged and amused.

Now we want to see your memories.

Whether you’ve cut out and kept clippings to commemorate a specific event or found a copy of the paper lining a suitcase, under the linoleum or in your grandparents’ shed, bring it to us and we’ll include it in a special gallery celebrating the 150 years of The Courier as a journal of record.

Since 1867 we’ve shared two world wars, several financial crises, the introduction of the motor car and aeroplane, the telephone and the internet.

Political intrigues at local, state and federal levels have been a staple, as have reports on court proceedings, agricultural issues, debutante balls and school fetes.

We’ve covered local tragedies: the bushfires that plague us, ever-present road trauma, railway accidents.

We’ve cheered our Olympic representatives and our local servicemen and women; our sporting teams and the people who miss out on recognition.

Each Wednesday and Saturday The Courier will be publishing articles looking back through our history, from the disappearance of our trams to Royal visits, through the celebrations and tribulations of Eureka over time to Ballarat’s current cultural renaissance.
