Strange revitalised interest
I enjoyed viewing the new Mars footy complex. Facilities look first class, well designed, functional and high quality; a credit to our tradesmen locally. A free admission day. It cost me sixpence at my one and only game in 1958 at city oval, thus after a 59 year hiatus, and seeing the new area, I feel a desperate urgency to reconnect, rejuvenated and lamenting lagging footy knowledge. My biggest problem lies in the actual rules of the game. They both start off religiously focusing on one end, mesmerised and infatuated with it whilst treating the other end toxic and to be avoided at all costs. Then later, a toot emits with a sudden loss of interest in ends and a sudden diametric reversal of what is hallowed turf.

Confusing? I say fast forward straight to the most enjoyable part of the game, the club singalong. Just leave the ball in the centre avoiding stress and injuries. The 36 players could each sing their club song for three minutes solo time, 108 minutes of happiness and entertaining fans.

Choosing not to be fleeced
Service stations certainly know how to mark up their prices. Imagine my surprise when in Warrnambool, our work car was refuelled and I got a 385ml can of a popular soft drink and paid $4.95. I have noticed that the prices on most products are outlandish in most service stations these days and I refuse to pay an outlandish price on principle. Support your local milk bar or go to a supermarket. You save over the long term.

road deterioration a major safety factor
Since new year's day, 87 lives have been lost on Victoria's country roads. Our rural road networks are crumbling and urgently need an immediate funding injection to improve safety. Instead, Daniel Andrews has slashed the regional roads budget by more than $360 million since coming to office in 2014. A recent report by the Municipal Association of Victoria found regional councils are struggling to maintain - let alone upgrade - their roads. The Victorian Auditor-General also recently reported deterioration of Victoria's country road network poses a "growing risk to public safety".

Law should stay
In a recent opinion comment article in The Courier, Wednesday, July 12, a journalist, Kate McIlwain, made some comments that legal marriage celebrants need to say, "Marriage is the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life" which she complains as "... having it explicitly pointed out that our marriage laws are still bigoted and exclusionary".
But man and woman were created to be joined in marriage to procreate life. We should realise that truth does not change to pander to special interest groups. Man's law must never supersede divine law thus making it impossible to determine right from wrong. The Marriage Amendment Act 2004 must not be tampered with.

Bring them here
Refugees on Manus Island say two men have been seriously injured One had his leg sliced with a machete, one had his wrist cut with a knife; one attack occurred during a break-in at Lorengau. We have duty-of-care for about 700 men and aren't providing that care. Our government bears responsibility; we who elected them - Coalition, Labor, etc - are personally responsible, too These attacks are results of our inaction, our mindful, heartless refusal to act. Violence against these men continues. There's no evidence boats will re-start if we bring 700 men to Australia. If you love your fellow human beings, do the right thing. Give these men a home in Australia
