Meek, Caris selected in TAC Cup team of the year

Greater Western Victoria Rebels Lloyd Meek and Rene Caris have been named in their respective competition’s TAC Cup team of the year.

The two ruckman have enjoyed impressive seasons and were rewarded accordingly at Sunday night’s TAC Cup Morrish Medal.

Meek was named on the interchange bench while Caris was named in the ruck for the girls’ team of the year.

GWV Rebels talent manager Phil Partington said it was extremely pleasing to be represented among the TAC Cup’s best.

He said the two recipients have worked hard towards delivering seasons like 2017.

“She’s a really great athlete, a competitive beast,” Partington said of Caris.

While Partington said Meek had really developed this season and taken on the off-season feedback he was provided. The big-bodied ruckman has improved his physicality and got some valuable experience at VFL level this season, playing four matches for the North Ballarat Roosters.

Oakleigh Charger Jack Higgins claimed the Morrish Medal with 22 votes, two clear of Calder Cannon Brad Bernacki.

Rebels’ captain Callan Wellings was the top vote-getter for Greater Western Victoria, finishing with 10 votes to come equal 11th.
