While the youngster didn’t play much of a role in the success, he was part of the team that crushed the Cricket Australia XI by seven wickets in the JLT One-Day Cup clash.
The game was held at Sydney’s Hurstville Oval.
Thomson bowled two deliveries to finish one of skipper Cameron White’s overs during the CAXI innings and wasn’t required to bat as the side easily chased down the target of 233 with more than 10 overs to spare.
Thomson has this year been upgraded from a Victorian rookie and given a full contract with the Bushrangers.
It was a historic day for Ballarat cricket, with both Thomson and Matt Short playing alongside one another.
Both boys grew up playing with East Ballarat.
Short snared two wickets with the ball on Tuesday, but didn’t get a bat.
Peter Handscomb stared in the Bushrangers’ run chase with an unbeaten 103.
