After a brief taste of Spring, wild and woolly weather has returned to Ballarat.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for Ballarat and Daylesford, with damaging winds expected for much of the state.

A cold front from the Bight crossed Southwest Victoria this morning and will reach central areas around lunchtime. Winds averaging 50 to 60 km/h will develop this morning and continue into the afternoon, with the possibility of peak gusts of around 100 km/h.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:

  • Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
  • Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
  • Keep clear of fallen power lines
