Malseed enjoyed a number of great performances throughout the series. She won the Tour of South West in among a host of other podium finishes, culminating in enough points to hand her the title.
The 22-year-old is part of the Holden Women’s Racing team, who also proved a force across the National Road Series winning the team’s general classification.
While Malseed came away with the most points from the series, she paid credit to her team which helped her to the success.
“It’s pretty special, more for a team achievement as well as a personal achievement,” Malseed said.
“This year was another great group of girls, I can’t speak highly enough of the team environment and the commitment towards each other for all of the races.
“I’ve had such a cool time racing with them this year.”
Holden won four tour stages throughout the series, with four different riders taking the honours.
The Holden Women’s Racing team is made up of eight cyclists, five of which take part in any given tour.
Malseed has been with Holden for five years and has high hopes for the team.
She said it was not foolish to think big and aim towards Holden one day competing on an international stage.
Malseed said the next step for the successful team would be to have an overseas presence, compete in an European or American tour in the hope of landing a big sponsor to financially support the team in a potential international venture.
“I hope they can keep growing in the future and hopefully become an international team one day – that would be the ultimate for the team.
“There’s definitely a lot of work that would go into something like that. It’s also a matter of securing a big sponsor, someone that’s willing to invest into the team.
“It’s a possibility, I wouldn’t discount it, but it would be a long-term goal.”
Malseed will now prepare to compete in some domestic races with Holden in Perth and then Bright before turning her attention to Ballarat’s Road National Championships in January.
She has previously had some impressive results at the Road Nationals, winning the under-23 criterium and road race in 2015. While she finished fourth overall earlier this year. Road Nationals begin on January 3.
