Not-for-profit organisation Sports Central has partnered with Women’s Health Grampians as part of a call to action for gender equality and the prevention of violence against women.
Sports Central executive officer Michael Flynn said a Presidents’ Leading Change dinner on November 27 was a chance to bring sporting groups together and start a conversation about joining the Communities of Respect and Equality alliance.
He said clubs needed to recognised their part in creating cultural change at a grassroots level and this started with the leaders.
“It is about helping them identify the role they can play whether it’s governance or just promoting awareness around language, unconscious bias and gender stereotypes and then being able to embed that with policy and practice within the clubs,” Mr Flynn said.
“We want to make sure our girls and women are having as positive sporting experience as possible.”
Mr Flynn said it was also important to recognise and celebrate the work that had already been done.
