The town to Ballarat’s north has a unique demographic make up, with the largest age group being young primary school children.
It reflects the strong growth in the town thanks to successful housing developments, driven by young families in search of cheaper homes.
Now the community has been invited to have its say on the future of the town’s community park playground.
Ballarat City Council will host a consultation meeting at the Miners Rest Community Park on Monday from 3.30-5.30pm.
Residents have been encouraged to provide ideas to improve the park’s playground for the younger generation.
North Ward councillor Grant Tillett said there was an astounding number of children at Miners Rest following the town’s huge growth.
“The park project at Miners Rest has been growing for three or five years,” he said.
“It has been behind the eight ball but is done now, so the thing to do is stock the park with appropriate spaces for children.
“The ball is in the court of the parents of miners rest to step up now and tell council what they want, because they will never get a better chance.
“Not all the requests will be met, but it will give us a guide on what we should do.”
The playground upgrade will form part of the next phase of the Miners Rest Community Park redevelopment project.
A draft plan for the upgrade will be developed following consultation with the community during the coming months and presented to council.
