A debt collector by day, Mr Grogan will join an army of keen beer enthusiasts vying to be crowned Ballarat’s best home brewer as part of the Ballarat Beer Festival’s Home Brew Summer Slam competition.
While a dark milk stout was Mr Grogan’s drop of choice at the 2017 competition, he’s hoping an experimental raspberry wheat beer will claim him top honours this time around. He said while his first foray into competition was for feedback, he was out to take out the top gong in 2018.
“Home brewing means that I can make the beer that I want,” Mr Grogan said.
The competition winner will get the chance to use Federation University’s commercial brewing space to create two kegs of their custom beer which then goes on tap at The Mallow Hotel.
The Ballarat Beer Festival will be held in the new location of Lake Wendouree on January 20.
