The former St Kilda rookie spent this year on North Ballarat Roosters’ list in the VFL.
He was one of the Roosters’ 2017 marquee recruits after being delisted by St Kilda.
Payne made 10 appearances with North Ballarat in an injury-interrupted year, which finished with his former junior club Bacchus Marsh in the Ballarat league.
He managed just two games with the Cobras, including five goals against Melton South, but a foot injury meant he did not play beyond the first week in August.
SUNBURY has continued the pattern of attracting well credentialled former Calder Cannons TAC Cup players with the signing of potential key forward Jack Fenner.
He is returning to the region after playing with Koondrook-Barham in the Central Murray league this year.
The 192cm Fenner spent his junior days with Strathmore and attended 2011 Victorian state AFL combine testing.

He is returning to Portland to play with Westerns in the South West District league.
Curtis ventured to North Ballarat in the BFL in 2016, joining former Rebels teammate Jordyn Burke.
REDAN forward Brenton Riordan is returning to his grassroots to play with younger brother Andrew at Katandra in the Picola District league.
Brenton crossed from Grovedale in the Geelong league to Redan in 2012 and represented the BFL in the country championships in 2014, when he lined up against his brother.
He was a regular in the senior line-up, averaging two goals a game, up to this year, when he lost his place and managed just two games.
