Earlier: Record-breaking rain is bearing down on Victoria, triggering warnings of dangerous flash flooding across the state.

After a scorching end to spring, Ballarat is set to get one month's worth of rain in just two days, and possibly an entire summer's worth of rain in the season's first three days and the town is bracing itself for the worst.

More than 100mm of rain is possible in Ballarat and is expected to hit the city some time Thursday evening or Friday.
