The tiny white starry flowers and the small oval leaves with toothed edges identify this as matted pratia. It is a suckering plant of higher-rainfall forested places such as the Wombat Forest.

Poison lobelia is a more open trailing plant with pale blue flowers. Both species – like most lobelias -  flower in summer and into autumn.

Matted pratia is an attractive and useful garden plant, but it requires adequate moisture during dry periods.  It can do well in a rockery, and is sometimes deliberately grown in lawns because of its flowers.

Its scientific name is Lobelia pedunculata.
