Students abandoned their uniforms for the brightest pink outfits they could find and enjoyed an afternoon of cricket matches.
“We had a great day,” said BCC physical education and sport coordinator Scott McKenzie.
“It was the first Pink Stumps day we have ever run but the kids got right in to it and we are looking to build on it and make it a regular event,” Mr McKenzie said.
Pink Stumps day is a fundraiser for the McGrath Foundation, founded by Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath whose wife Jane died of breast cancer almost 10 years ago. The foundation funds breast care nurses across Australia including two in Ballarat.
Ballarat Christian College students each donated a gold coin to the cause.
“Breast cancer and cancer in general touches a lot of people’s lives, so a lot of our kids and families in the community are going to at some stage come across people with a loved one or significant other with cancer, so anything we can do to promote awareness about it and raise some funds is awesome,” Mr McKenzie said.
The day also created awareness among the school community about the work of the McGrath Foundation.
“There were lots of runs scored, lots of wickets, a few chances for hat tricks, and lots of fun,” Mr McKenzie said.
