A 53-year-old man with p-plates has narrowly avoided hitting a police car head-on on the Western Freeway overnight.

The police member, driving a dog squad vehicle, observed headlights coming toward him from a car on the wrong side of the freeway at Rockbank just before 12.30am.
The officer was forced to take evasive action to avoid a head-on collision.
Another police unit located the vehicle still on the wrong side of Hopkins Road a short time later and activated their emergency lights.
The vehicle continued on the wrong side of the road causing multiple vehicles to swerve to avoid a collision.
The vehicle eventually pulled over further down the highway and the driver was arrested.
The 53-year-old Braybrook man, who was driving on P plates, had his car impounded immediately.
He has been released pending summons and is expected to be charged on summons with conduct endangering life and other traffic related offences.
