Police allege the Canadian woman, aged in her early 30s, was driving west on Leith Street when she ignored the red light and smashed into a Commodore travelling north on Skipton Street about 10am.
The woman’s white Kia hatchback rocked violently and rolled after the collision, coming to rest upside down with two young children still inside.
All three were treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said they would issue the woman with an infringement notice.
“Take your time and slow down,” Acting Senior Sergeant Stuart Gale said.
