The Android app will provide the latest breaking news from The Courier's newsroom and has an unique report function for readers to supply news tips, on and off the record.
It also offers local news and sport content, national news, blogs and weather, all at readers' fingertips.
The Courier editor Andrew Eales said the launch of the Android App followed the success of the free iPhone app, which won the prestigious Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers' Association award this year.
More than 8000 downloads have been recorded for the iPhone app.
"The Android app is just another way readers of The Courier can get involved in the newsmaking process. The unique report function allows readers to send in pictures or news tips with a click of a button.
"Our first assignment Android Answers will ask Ballarat residents to take part in a quiz to prove just how well they know the city.
"Best of all, Android users will now have the latest news from across Ballarat and beyond at their fingertips."
The Courier Android app is available for download in the play store and is supported by Telstra.
Details for the first assignment for the app Android Answers where readers could win a Samsung GALAXY Tab 8.9 4G will be published in The Courier tomorrow.
