A graceful and colour-filled display of music and dance kicked off the city’s Harmony Fest celebrations yesterday.

Marking the start of the 10-day Harmony Fest, Ballarat musician Anna Yuan performed on the Chinese Guzheng (zither) at the Ballarat Library, while a Chinese dancing demonstration using fans and parasols was performed by the Happy Birds group.
The events are connected to Cultural Diversity Week, Victoria’s largest multicultural celebration.
Over 40 events will showcase the city’s diverse residents, as 16 restaurants participate in “Tastes of the World”, featuring traditional cuisines.
The festival will culminate with the inaugural Rock the Block culture event at on 25 March at Federation University Australia's SMB Campus.
