Loreto is already ranking in the top-20 schools with sign-ups to take on the Premier’s Active April Challenge, one week out from the official launch.
The mission is to commit to 30 minutes of physical activity each day in April to improve health and well-being and with the aim to get into healthy routines.
Loreto year 11 student Lucy Donegan said the challenge really made you aware of exactly how much you were moving.
“The challenge is important because it motivates good health,” Ms Donegan said. “I’m usually pretty active but this should be a fun way to measure.”
Classmate Sophie Molan has a weekly schedule packed with basketball training and the start of the TAC Cup girls football season with Greater Western Victoria Rebels. Ms Molan hopes the challenge will help improve her fitness and ensure she is still moving a little on days when she has no training.
Active sessions include taking the dog for a walk, gardening, cycling to work or walking to a nearby cafe at the weekend.
All ages and abilities are encouraged to get moving for the challenge. Registration is free and Ballarat participants will receive a free passes to Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre and Delacombe Community Hub.

Loreto has been getting into its active mode with the school athletics carnival on Friday and with more than 120 girls pedalling away for National Ride2School Day on Wednesday.
Students have also been encouraging parents and siblings to take up the challenge.
Loreto sports co-director and physical education teacher Naomi Russell said the school had a strong active culture and the challenge was good extra incentive and a bit of fun for students and teachers, particularly leading into the Easter school holidays.
Active April participants can log their progress online via the website or using the mobile app. The My Local feature online and on the app helps locate and plan activities across the region.
