Sydneys’ Queenwood School for Girls has rowed itself into favouritism for the national schoolgirls’ coxed four championship in Sydney.

Queenwood won the first of two 2000m heats on Thursday in seven minutes, 27.68 minutes – almost 12 seconds faster than Ballarat’s Loreto College took out the second.
Loreto won by 10.18 seconds from Ballarat High School, with the top two placings enough to progress each crew into Sunday’s final.
Ballarat Grammar School and Ballarat Clarendon finished third and fourth respectively in heat one and Damascus College and BCC’s second crew fourth and seventh in heat two. They will contest repechages on Friday.
The schoolboys’ coxed four heats will be rowed on Friday, with head of the lake and state champion St Patrick’s College, Ballarat High School, Ballarat Clarendon College and Ballarat Grammar School on the water.
Repechages will follow on Saturday and final on Sunday.
