A group of 10 year 12 students from Wigan Boarding House have organised a raffle fundraiser for the school’s ‘mother son’ day at the weekend.
The team of students approached Ballarat businesses to donate products or vouchers to be a part of the raffle.
Money raised will be donated to families in the Ballarat Grammar community who have lost livestock and had property damaged in the Terang fires.
Year 12 student Mitch Ryan first had the idea to fund-raise for the families earlier this week.
“It is such a terrible experience. In our area we have had our own trouble – we have seen how it affects communities so much and how little bits of help do go a long way,” he said.
Head of Wigan Boarding House Brendon Gilbert said he was extremely proud of the boys for upholding the schools’ value of leadership through service.
“They can get caught up when they have so much going on with their own study and their own commitments, but this is them thinking beyond themselves,” he said.
