New ticket system starting next week

A DATE has finally been announced for the arrival of Victoria's new public transport ticketing system in Ballarat.Plastic smart card myki will be introduced on the city's Davis Bus Lines buses on Monday.A reusable debit card, customers swipe their myki against the myki reader when they board a bus and swipe again when they disembark.This enables the system to automatically calculate the best fare.Ballarat is the third Victorian city to adopt myki, with the system currently being used on buses in Geelong and Seymour.It will eventually be rolled out on all forms of public transport in Victoria.In preparation for myki's arrival, the mobile myki discovery centre rolled into town this week.Based in the Little Bridge St carpark near the bus interchange, the state-of-the-art facility shows people how myki works through a series of interactive experiences.The travelling centre will also visit Stockland Wendouree this week from Wednesday until Saturday before returning to the Little Bridge St carpark next Monday and Tuesday.The $5 myki starter pack is available for a limited time from myki mates on the city's buses and the discovery centre.For more information, visit www.myki.com.au or call 13 6954 (13 myki).
