Ballarat first stop on dance company's tour

DANCING fans are in for a treat tonight with the Australian Ballet Dancer's Company kicking off their cross-country tour at Her Majesty's Theatre in Ballarat.Comprised of 28 senior students from the Australian Ballet School, along with special guests from the Australian Ballet, Reiko Hombo and Jia Yin Du, the program incorporates contemporary dance and classical ballet.Ballarat is the first on an 18-stop tour of regional Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.Backed by Telstra, which celebrate 25 years of sponsorship in 2009, this year marks the 30th tour by the company.Telstra area general manager Bill Mundy said the company was proud to provide backing for the young dancers."It's been a long and fruitful partnership," Mr Mundy said. Dancer Jessica Fyfe, 19, said the show promised to be something special."It's our first stage rehearsal, and it's looking fantastic," she said.Students from the Carole Oliver Ballet School also had the opportunity to attend a masterclass run by several members of the Dancer's Company.
