A Maryborough teenager was airlifted to Melbourne with possible spinal injuries this morning, after being knocked from her bicycle by a learner driver while both were on their way to school.Maryborough police Acting Sergeant Rob Watts said the cyclist, 13, and the motorist, 17, were both travelling south on Pekin St, about one kilometre north west of the city centre, when the girl was struck at about 8.20am.Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said paramedics immoblised her spine at the scene as a precautionary measure before she was flown to the Royal Children's Hospital by air ambulance. He said she also sustained a fractured ankle in the collision.Sgt Watts said investigations were continuing into the cause but early indications did not point to excessive speed as a factor. He said the learner had a fully licensed driver in the passenger seat and the cyclist was wearing a helmet. The cyclist was travelling alone at the time of the collision, which occurred near the intersection of Fink St.She remains in a stable condition in hospital.
